Earle “Mr. Earle” Staponski (1926-1995) was a renaissance man. Born in Pulaskifield, he wore many hats during his life, from farmer to soldier, State Representative, mayor, author, educator, husband, father, principal, historian and so much more. His love of family and community bettered everything and everyone he touched, and he touched many, many lives.
For those whose family roots intertwine in Pulaskifield, Earle’s perpetual gift was the compilation and publishing of the history of Pulaskifield families in the soft bound book Past and Present. Each family was invited to submit a genealogical history of their family, along with photographs, recipes and memories, to include in the book. The result is a timeless snapshot of the life and times of the area.
These families each have a section dedicated to their stories: Abramovitz, Bartkoski, Belka, Bilski, Bobski, Boursheski, Burdolski, Ceselski, Cendroski, Dombroski, Eiskina, Filarski, Friday, Golkoski, Golubski, Jarzembek, Jasumback, Jaster, Kenski, Keuchel, Korkoski, Kresyman, Kuklenski, Levwski, Marchlewski/Moloski, Nimsick, Perch, Pozniak, Rakoski, Renkoski, Rosewicz, Ruskoski, Schratter, Stachowiak, Staponski, Stipp, Strick, Vonslevitz, Washeck/Washick, Wrobleski, Younker, Zajaczkowski and Zebert.
The book was printed only once, for a very limited time, in 1992. It can occasionally be found for sale on line; usually for a premium price. Area families hold their copies dear, as valuable as jewels, handed down from generation to generation. Local libraries have copies in their reference sections.
